Yoga Nidra – Yogic Sleep

Yoga Nidra is sometimes called yogic sleep. During Yoga Nidra you allow yourself to enter into a deeply relaxed state. While in this almost sleep-like state your mind may experience dreamlike experiences. But unlike sleep, there is awareness.

While in this deep relaxation, you can connect with your deeper consciousness. During this connection, deep healing and manifestation can occur.

Before you practice you may choose an intention.  An Intention may be a desire to be calmer and more present in life situations or have a better relationship with someone. The intention can be related to any aspect of your life, physical, emotional, or mental.  Keep it straightforward.    Notice how the feelings associated with this manifestation, how do you feel it physically, mentally emotionally.

After deeply relaxing by focusing your attention on your body and breath, you will bring your intention back to mind, feeling it as if it is present in your life at this moment.

Allow about twenty minutes for the practice.  Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Find a place where you will not be disturbed, where you can lie down on your back, or on your side. You may need a rolled blanket or bolster under your knees to allow the low back to release, and a rolled towel or blanket under your neck. You may like to have a blanket over you.  The goal is to allow the body to relax completely. No muscular effort is needed.  You may also like to turn down the lights in the room or place a towel over your eyes.

As you breathe, don’t force the breath. During the practice, I will cue awareness of the breath, just let it flow comfortably.

If you fall asleep, that’s ok.  Your unconscious mind still hears the instructions.  Sleep may be what your body needs.

Just like meditation, you are in control of the experience.  You have the choice of coming out of the state of relaxation at any time you might want to.

I hope you enjoy this restorative and powerful manifestation practice.
