“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.“
–Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
In the Yogic tradition, the heart is the seat of knowledge and our divine spark. The spiritual heart is pure awareness without the filters and perceptions of our subconscious. So it is that just knowing, often without words.
The heart speaks in a whisper, drowned out by distractions from your thoughts and senses. To listen, you need to be still, allow your mind to be quiet, and find a place away from distractions.
Part of my Yoga practice is learning to tune into the voice of my spiritual heart. It takes work. I have spent most of my life living in my head. I have always prided myself on being a rational, logical thinker. Yet, this often conflicts with that inner knowing.
How do I reconcile that inner knowing, which often goes against all logic? It is a subtle recognition, sometimes a feeling in my body, sometimes a nagging doubt. But through practices like meditation and yoga, I am learning to recognize this quiet voice.
I invite you to begin learning to access the voice of your heart.
Find a quiet place. Focus on your heart center without words, without judgment. Listen to your heart’s advice.
