“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” Alan W. Watts. The new year is a time when I find myself looking back at what was, trying to imagine the path ahead. But one thing I know, everything changes. Each year, each day, each moment, brings something different. Nothing stays the same forever, and I can’t cling or hold onto what was.

It’s easy to get lost in all the things you perceive to be going wrong or focus on the things you don’t have. It’s really easy to take for granted the little things in life that make your life what it is. The little things make your life convenient and comfortable. I see so many social media posts with titles like "Master Your Headstand." Posts and articles like this make it seem like advancing your Yoga practice is all about achieving athletic, challenging poses.
In my last post, I talked about pairs of opposites and finding the just-right balance in the spectrum of possibilities.
There is also another range of extreme opposites. We can view ourselves as separate physical beings, unconnected in any way to nature or others, or believe we need to disconnect entirely from material existence.
Yoga is the practice of balancing opposites. It is finding balance or equilibrium in all things in life. Not too much, not too little. Like Goldilocks looking for the just-right bowl of porridge, not too hot, not too cold.
If there was one trait needed right now, resilience would be at the top of my list. What was once “normal” may no longer exist. The solid ground of the known has given way to the shifting sands of the unknown.
In the Yogic tradition, the heart is the seat of knowledge and our divine spark. The spiritual heart is pure awareness without the filters and perceptions of our subconscious.
