I am a self-professed control freak who found yoga, meditation, and NLP to manage self-induced stress. I obsess over anatomy books, full moons, and the mysteries of being human. I have been practicing various styles of yoga and meditation for over twenty years. I am a master NLP Practitioner, I am registered with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT-500 yoga teacher. I am also a certified meditation instructor and Ayurvedic practitioner.

Use the breath as an object of mediation

The breath is often used in meditation because it can be felt and heard. This meditation uses your breath as an anchor, an object to hold your mind present.

Try out a meditation on your breath. Set a timer for 2-5 minutes. Sit comfortably, or lie on your back.

Start by placing your attention on one location to notice your breath. It may be your mouth, nostrils, chest, or anywhere else you notice the sensation of the breath. You may find it easier to listen to the sound of your breath. Let your attention rest there, and as you inhale, notice the sensation of inhaling. Do not put words to the feeling. Just let your awareness rest there. Eventually, you will notice the sense of your exhales.

If you get distracted by your thoughts or an outside distraction, gently guide your awareness toward your breath. Try not to look at the time. If you become uncomfortable as you sit, you can shift your seat or move around. Stay present with your breath, or you may notice the movement you create.

If you want to practice this meditation with guided audio, I recorded one to lead you through a meditation practice using the breath. If you are sitting to the audio, you won’t need to set a timer.

The audio is about five minutes.

Enjoy!
